It’s Not A Rut

Have you always been a social person or do you prefer being alone?  If you have a choice do you opt to be with one or two good friends or do you enjoy the crowds?  Have you ever forced yourself to do something different because you think it might be what you really need? For over 36 years it was always just Jack & me.  We had a few good friends but neither one of us really enjoyed big groups or crowds.  Since he passed I’ve been pushing myself out of my comfort zone in an attempt to get out of a self-perceived rut.  Every time I do though I come to realize that where I’ve been all along isn’t a rut at all. It’s the life I prefer. This fall I took a trip to Ireland and while it was am amazing country to visit I knew a day into it that traveling wouldn’t be in my future.  I prefer to be home and in familiar surroundings.  This past week I went to a meet up group for people whose spouses had died.  While everyone was nice I knew 5 minutes into it that it wasn’t the right fit for me.  I just don’t care about breaking into someone else’s social circle.
