A Simple Approach For You in 2018

Do you make New Year’s resolutions every year or even make the decision that this year you’re going to get healthy, get wealthy, get your dream job or partner? How does it feel at the end of another year when you are seemingly no closer to your dreams being your reality? We’ve all been there.

It’s discouraging to start out a new year so full of hope but if history repeats itself you’ll be singing the blues come December 31 st.

Are you ready to break that pattern and feel good about yourself all year long? As a proponent of taking it one Simple Step at a time I know that if you will choose that approach you’ll be in a better place than you may be now. Isn’t that what you really want?

Its easy to talk about a simple plan but sometimes you need more then words of inspiration or empty platitudes. I know I do. That’s why this year we’re going to help you move in the direction you want to go. We can leave the buzz words at the door and move beyond what’s been holding you back. So let’s go.

Think about a moment that you did something that you thought was insignificant but someone else was grateful for. It may have been a kind word to a stranger, opening a door for someone with their arms full or paying for the person’s drink behind you in the Starbuck’s drive through. That is the feeling we’re going to teach you how to give yourself that feeling every day.

To start though think of what is important to you right now. It may be getting healthier or more fit. It may be saving for a home. Whatever it is I want you to decide what is your top priority for 2018. When you do this however do so in terms that are reasonable. For example if your goal is to have a million dollars in the bank this year and you are living paycheck to paycheck that goal is going to seem like a pie in the sky. When we feel that way about our goals its easy to give up on them. If instead you decide you want to have a month’s salary in savings by the end of the year that feels more attainable. If you want to lose weight rather than say your goal is to fit into a size 00 when you are current a size 16 set a goal to lose 10% of your body weight this year.

Experts in goal setting will tell you to set stretch goals. If you’ve been trying to accomplish your goals for maybe years stretching is relative. Achieving a goal that will make you feel better as you work towards it rather than living with the belief you’ll never get there is the approach that will bring you success.

Next, do the math. If you want to lose 10% of your body weight and you weigh 180 lbs your goal is to lose 18 lbs this year. That’s a lot if you are trying to do it in a month or two. When you divide it by 12 months your plan is to lose 1.5 lbs each month. You can do that! If you want to save a month’s pay and you take home $1,500 a month that’s $125 dollars. You can also think about it as saving $29/week. Would you be willing to give up your daily latte to save that much each week?

When you break your goal down into reasonable steps it seems not only attainable but exciting! As you start to make progress on saving or losing or whatever your goal is you’ll also start getting more creative your thought process. You may decided to take an extra walk a few times a week, sell some of your stuff that has been sitting in a closet for years or maybe even picking up some extra work or offering your services when you have the time.

Your progress is your inspiration to keep going because when you have tasted success you know you can and want to do it again.

Now take a few minutes to visualize your monthly progress and what you or your bank account will look like if you stay the course of your simple plan. Imagine how good you will feel with your success. Smile at how it makes you feel. Isn’t the better than you felt at the end of the last years?

Here is to your success!

With love, Cheryl
