Positive Thinking: How to Stop and Win Anyway

When it comes to the law of attraction, I will get to the point now: If you are saying to yourself things like, “I am abundant” and “I attract all that I want” and (a) you honestly don’t believe it in your heart, or (b) you desperately want to attract things to help you feel happy (worthy, forgiven or safe), I believe you are barking up the wrong tree. The law of attraction relates to your signature energy and not your thoughts and hopes.

I started my journey of positive thinking over 40 years ago. Nobody could out positive-think me. I tried HARD. I wanted money, ease of living and to find my purpose. I believed that I could shift my vibration or frequency by saying, writing and thinking that I was abundant over and over again.

But deep-down, the honest truth was I felt dirty, wrong and just plain bad. Since I was seven years old, I thought that the sexual violations were my fault. If I was a good person, I wouldn’t have had those experiences, so I believed that I wasn’t valuable or worthy no matter how hard I tried to believe that I was abundant. This was the truth that I was vibrating.

So, while I was doing all the positive thinking I could, the most prevalent voices inside my head would keep chiming in to say things like: “That might work for somebody else, Janet, but it won’t work for you and you know it.” And in my heart of hearts, THIS was I firmly believed to be true.

When I couldn’t run from myself anymore (because living had become nearly impossible), I turned around to face my nasty and critical inner voice. It took courage to truly get to know the “dark” aspects of myself. It helped me get to the positive and protective wish that was underneath the nasty criticism. This breakthrough journey was the most impactful of my life, and, as a result, I naturally live within a state of abundance and joy, with no “forced” positive thinking required. I call this journey the “pre” law of attraction phase. First things first!

If the goal of your positive thinking is to try to outrun or forget some tough experiences you have had, I understand what that feels like too. I invite you to consider that while you explore this different approach to getting what you want, know that you are always safely nestled within unconditional love of divine origin.

When it comes to attracting abundance, your honesty is the best place to start. Tell the truth about how you feel. It’s okay to feel sadness about what happened and to grieve what you missed because you grew up very fast. It might feel like total crap at first (which is why we avoid feeling it) but if this is what is true for you, in time, with your understanding and self-compassion, the pain will subside. This is when living within a state of authentic abundance starts creeping in!

Feeling emotion is our natural and balanced state but we have been conditioned to fear and ignore our emotions. When you release your sadness safely with harm to none including yourself, you will naturally heal for real and reclaim your worth.

The trip about life is that you will attract abundance when you feel good about yourself first. It’s interesting how things show up when you don’t need them to feel worthy because you already recognize your inherent value, and are happily singing from the rooftops about the pleasures of living. This begins by telling yourself your truth. The way to win is from within, and it is the springboard to creating your most amazing life.
