You understand that your body’s immune system helps you resist everything from a common cold to cancer. The stronger your body the more you are able to avoid getting sick. Did you know though that you have an emotional immune system too… and one you can fortify to help you resist the negative influences in your life?
When you surround yourself with positive people and seek to have positive experiences in life you automatically find yourself in a happier place. However we all know the person or persons in our life that live in a state of doom & gloom. Being around them is such a downer. If they are your family or dear friends it’s hard to avoid them.
We are constantly making choices. Do we watch the nightly news or turn on positive radio? Do we read the paper or Simple Steps Real Change Magazine? When we opted for the more positive experiences we build up our emotional immunity. When we choose to seek out and radiate the positivity we help draw the happiness out in others.
Marci Shimoff, author of Happy For No Reason, recommends that if you can’t limit your time with negative people then a wonderful Simple Steps is to practice forgiveness towards them. This is a practice that is for you and has nothing to do with them. When you let go of the anger and resentment you have towards their negativity you become happier. With your change in attitude they will change too, in time.
Marci recommends using this technique:
When you’re thinking about or with the negative person say to yourself:
“Please forgive me.”
“I love you.”
This is a practice that is for you and has nothing to do with them. When you let go of the anger and resentment you have towards their negativity you become happier. With your change in attitude they will change too, in time.
You build up your emotional immunity to negativity by choosing more positive influences and people in your life. When you can’t then choose to lead your interactions with love and love with flow.
I had the honor to interview Marci Shimoff for the Winter 2014 Issue of Simple Steps Real Change Magazine. Marci’s book inspired me to leave behind my own negativity and find a better place in life. We all receive our messages differently. Check out my other “Recommended Resources.”
