What is it that you are putting up with in your life that is adding drag on your dreams? How many times have you heard yourself saying, “I should or shouldn’t…” That self-imposed pressure needs a relief valve and that’s what we’re going to talk about today.
When you’re living under the self-imposed belief that you should or shouldn’t do something you are voluntarily choosing to add clutter to your soul. Yes… your soul. All those things you think you should or shouldn’t do, personally, are figments of your imagination. Notice that I said personally. This isn’t a blog about shirking your work responsibilities.
Here are a few examples. “I should call my aunt today.” “I shouldn’t have been so short with my daughter.” “I should get out and walk.” “I shouldn’t have eaten that candy bar.”
Here is today’s Simple Step to help you clear the clutter from your soul:
- As soon as you have a few moments take stock of all the “Should’s” and “shouldn’ts” you’re harboring under. Take the time to do this… It’s important for you! It helps to write them down in some way so you are sure you have them all.
- Take a look at what you’ve written and cross out anything that someone else has told you that you should or shouldn’t do. Use a big black marker for those. This is your life…not theirs!
- From your remaining items what do you WANT to do or not do? Seriously. For example if you really want to lose weight or get a new job you know what would help you accomplish those goals. If you don’t WANT to do it, cross it off.
- What’s left is what you WANT! All the rest of the clutter is gone. Now do what YOU WANT!
We make life complicated by piling on all the stuff that comes with “should” or “shouldn’t” attached to it. That is a royal waste of time that you can be using to do what you want to do.
It is Simple… and easy.
