Listen Up!

Listen by

Blah, blah, blah… is that what you hear every time someone starts to complain, criticize or lecture to you?  Good!  Someone else’s opinion of what you should do, be or have is their issue… not yours.  You are the only one who can decide what is best for you.  You need however to listen to you!

Sure you know what is best for you… but do you listen to what the voice coming from you is actually saying?  It’s a double edge sword sometimes and it’s easy to feel confused.  If what your voice is saying is positive, encouraging or just feels good… run with it.  If however it is feeding you garbage… negativity, self deprecation and plain old meanness then don’t!  The latter usually come from years of being put down or from others who are trying to make themselves feel superior.  They aren’t.

The truth is that if you listen to the positive voice in your head, heart & soul then there is nothing that you cannot accomplish.  If you are having a hard time hearing the positivity try these Simple Steps to get on the you track:

  • Keep a journal and write down every time a negative or positive thought about yourself comes into your head.  Examples may be, “Why do I think that I know any more than an expert in the field (aka guru)? or “I have never been able to lose weight and keep it off so why bother.” or “I managed to finish off everything on my to do list in record time.  Now I can sit down and finish my book.”
  • Beside each statement write down how it makes you feel.  Good or bad… or maybe even indifferent.
  • At the end of the day take all of the Good statements and consolidate them on a single page.  Print them out and post them throughout your home, office or anywhere that you spend your time.  These will serve as a reminder of all the good qualities that you have.   Take the Bad statements and consolidate them onto a piece of paper too.  Print it out and the burn it (safely) or shred it.  As you do say to yourself, “I’m focusing on the positive aspects of my life!”

It feels so much better when you take the time to see the good in you and your life. It isn’t hard to find… but you have to want to.  WANT TO!
