I am a real fan of the song that goes:
And it’s a great day to be alive; I know the sun’s still shinin when I close my eyes; There’s some hard times in the neigborhood; But why can’t every day be just this good?
It seems like everywhere we turn there is news reporting the bad economy, how bad health care is in the US and of course the housing bubble bursting and throwing millions into foreclosure (or worse.)
As I sit here I’m unemployed, had rental properties which were lost when the bubble broke and we are dealing with our fair share of health challenges. We are probably counted in all the statistics that are tossed about by newscasters.
That however isn’t my reality…I have no desire to count up all that has been “lost.” If I did focus on all the negativity all I’d be doing is counting. And that doesn’t do me… or my family any good.
Instead I prefer to count my blessings. I’m healthy. Jack’s health is under control. We have a roof over our heads and I love my home. Jack has a good job and I’ll find the right one when it comes along. I can figure out a way to handle anything that comes up and I know that Jack & I are in this together. I’m grateful for our near 31 years of marriage.
My focus is on what is good in life…because that makes me happy. And it’s a great day to be alive.
What about you? What are you focused on in your life? Try these Simple Steps to change your focus to what you have to be grateful in your life:
- Turn off the news.
- Keep a gratitude journal. When you get up in the morning take the first 5 minutes of your day to give thanks for your life. Do the same at night before you go to bed.
- Volunteer to help those who are less fortunate than you are. When you help others your realize how grateful you are for your life.
What you focus on is what you will experience. Focus on what you have to be grateful for and you discover even more to be grateful for.
