I remember hearing the phrase “self fulfilling prophecy” when I was a kid. What that meant to me was that if I worried about something it would normally happen. For example I remember thinking that I was going to have an auto accident and a few short minutes later that it exactly what happened. In my younger days self fulfilling prophecies were something bad that happened.
So if I could think myself into something bad why couldn’t I think myself into something positive? Surely the world wasn’t out to get me!
These days I see my life very differently.
I believe that life is meant to be am amazing journey and my intention every day is to be happy. When my purpose is happiness I make decisions that support me.
When I returned to work for a few weeks it occurred to me how much time I’d wasted when I was off…when I could have been supporting my own happiness. I’ve made the decision not to squander away this time again.
Regardless of whether you are employed or not try these Simple Steps to support your happiness every day:
- Reserve 10 minutes every morning or before you to go to bed at night to focus on what makes you happy.
- Pick one thing that you want to do during the day that supports your joy. For example if you love flowers pick up a bunch for your desk at work or home. Every time you see them you’ll smile knowing that you picked the up just for you.
- If you find yourself in a stressful situation take a “time out.” Give yourself a 5-10 minute break. Go somewhere that you can be alone. Focus your thoughts on those things that make you happy.
Make the decision that your self fulfilling prophecy is to be happy. When that is your intention it is your reality. Make the choice to be happy!
